Midcentury Modern Living Kitchen
Ramsgate, Kent
Designed for a couple with a genuine passion for midcentury modern living, this bespoke kitchen in Ramsgate is an exercise in confident colour and careful craft. We worked with the clients to build a space that is unmistakably theirs, vivid, layered and full of considered detail.
The cabinetry runs through a palette of bright blue and leafy green, colour matched to Lick Blue 05 and Green 07, all finished in a satin sheen PU enamel lacquer. Inside, oiled birch ply interiors bring warmth and texture, while premium grade staved oak worktops run throughout, grounding the boldness of the colour with natural material. Manta Ray style oak handles complete the tactile experience, their organic form sitting perfectly within the midcentury spirit of the design.
Practicality is woven into every corner, quite literally. Two corner carousel cupboards make full use of what would otherwise be dead space, while bespoke drawer inserts keep the interior as refined as the exterior. A dedicated dog unit doubles as a coffee station plinth, and the top of that station carries real sentimental weight, it is fashioned from the family's old dining table, the one the children grew up around, given a new chapter in the heart of the home.
The splashbacks are bespoke antique mirror, adding depth and a vintage shimmer that feels entirely at home among midcentury references. Scaffold board open shelving with under-mounted LED strips lines the walls, illuminating the worktops below while providing the perfect stage for the clients' pottery collection. A push-catch boiler cupboard disappears seamlessly into the run of cabinetry, and a matching ceiling-hung vinyl shelving unit carries the design language upward, making the most of the full height of the room, colour drenched in Farrow & Balls Arsenic. An integrated bin and dishwasher ensure that the clean, unbroken lines of the cabinetry are never interrupted.
The result is a kitchen that feels curated rather than decorated, a space where craftsmanship, colour and personal history sit together with complete ease.
